Businesses of all sizes operate within markets where financial sustainability is essential for survival. In particular, I do not fully agree that maximising profit should be the sole goal of every business, whether small or large. On the whole, in my opinion, long-term success depends on broader responsibility and strategy rather than profit maximisation alone.

Moreover, profit maximisation without regard for employees or ethics can undermine the stability of a company. For instance, a small firm that underpays staff or ignores quality may gain short-term profit but faces high turnover and reputational damage. Furthermore, this damage reduces the revenue and profit of the firm, showing that human capital and customer trust are productive assets. Indeed, many large corporations recognise that social and environmental responsibility supports sustainable growth and lasting profit.

Admittedly, investment in safe processes and fair supply chains can limit the immediate profit that an enterprise earns. However, such responsibility reduces legal risk and builds loyalty, so firms outperform rivals focused only on margins and short-term gain. Consequently, a balanced strategy aligns profit with resilience and innovation in volatile and competitive markets for every company.

In conclusion, profit remains vital for both a small and a large business, but it should not be maximised in isolation. Ultimately, an enterprise that integrates ethics, stakeholder interests, and long-term management is more likely to achieve durable profit and relevance.
