University libraries have traditionally preserved printed books as the core academic resource, yet rapid digital transformation challenges this function. I partly agree that dependence on physical collections is becoming outdated, and universities should prioritise digital media, although libraries still retain limited but important roles beyond simple storage.

Digital media offers clear advantages for higher education. Electronic journals and e-books provide immediate access to extensive and current materials regardless of location, which supports flexible learning and research efficiency. For instance, students can search academic databases instantly rather than rely on scarce printed copies. Digital resources also reduce costs related to space, printing, and maintenance, enabling universities to redirect funding towards teaching quality and educational innovation.

However, replacing libraries entirely with digital platforms has notable disadvantages. Not all academic texts have been converted into digital formats, and licensing arrangements can restrict long-term availability. Furthermore, prolonged screen use may hinder deep reading and sustained concentration, while technical failures or limited internet access can interrupt study. Libraries also operate as quiet study environments and centres for academic guidance, functions that purely online systems cannot adequately replicate.

In conclusion, digital media should become the primary medium in universities because of its accessibility, efficiency, and scalability. Nevertheless, describing the library as obsolete is an overstatement. A balanced approach, in which digital resources dominate while libraries evolve into learning and support spaces, best serves contemporary higher education.
