Naturopathy
Transcript:
We have a a basic regulatory problem in Australia in that the profession of naturopathy is self-regulated. So, there is currently, not a standardised practise of the profession and therefore, we have a great variation in public confusion about the competencies of the the practitioners out there. Now, that being said, there is some very competent and well-trained practitioners that are out there that aren't sitting within the current system or known what their skills and their knowledge are around food and nutrition. And I think, it does play a really important role and it's an untapped resource that there's some things that we need to put in place so that can be utilised in a favourable way and a more profile way for the community. So, if we pop back to Isabella's question about what could change in medical, in one thing we've changed about how medical doctors practise, I think interprofessional collaboration is a really important part of practise because as Michael pointed out, doctors are very busy being good doctors, acknowledging nutrition and having people in their practise that they can work closely with around that can really be a great benefit to our people seeking your care; and I would love to see that, you know change over time.
