Like to share now for more thoughts on collaborative research and methodologies and on the decolonisation of research. For myself and my graduate students as for their etichemic partners and co-researchers, I think I can say that we lived through those years of working together as a mutual experience in decolonization, not only in the ways of doing research, but also in our subjectivities and inter-subjectivities. While I brought the grant money to conduct the research, I consider that it was their project. They designed every step of it, decided where we could go and could not go and at which place. It was a process, an adventure that extended over nearly 10 years. From my understanding, the process and whatever was acquired through it, by all those involved, atomic and non-atomic, are as important if not more important than the actual outcomes. Collaborative research is a constant process of learning, of exchange and of decolonization for the anthropologists and the indigenous people involved. Working and engaging with indigenous people, one is constantly reminded that you are a person before being a researcher. When I first started working with them, their etichemic tested my relational skills and sensitivities much more than my scientific skills.
