Talking about a couple of issues that I think, at least for me, create the prism through which I look at everything and talk about everything, and I want to just begin by asking the question of what is the proper role of a journalist in a democracy, which seems like a really obvious question in one sense, but as the Internet has turned so many more people of so many different and diverse backgrounds and experiences into journalists, or at least people who do Journalism. The question of what a journalist does and what the proper role of a journalist, I think, has undergone a lot of transformations. And the answers aren't as obvious as they might seem. So, I spend a lot of time thinking about this question as a journalist and as somebody whose journalism has been controversial, not just because of the subject matter of the journalism, but the way in which I choose to pursue it. I have been engaged in a lot of debates with a lot of people, including people who are sort of a classic journalist over the course of the last decade about what a journalist should and shouldn't do. So, I think the obvious answer or the most immediately obvious answer for what a journalist does is a journalist informs people about what's going on in the world that's of significance...!
