A commonly claim about social media platforms like Twitter or Facebook is that everyone who is on them turns into a journalist, not only reporting news as they it, but also being able to broadcast what they see on an equal footing with traditional media. , this is far from the truth. As is obvious from reports of fake news, differentiating between an authentic report from a trustworthy source and a cooked-up or fake one is extremely difficult. For example, how can you tell if a photo supposedly showing street protestors in London has been taken at the time it claims? It could be from a completely different location, context and time altogether.
