CELPIP Practice Reading: Reading Correspondence ID: #61030 Easy Joining a Latin Group at the Library

Read the following message.

Dear Omar,

It was good to hear that you would like to join our reading circle. We work with short Latin passages and discuss how readers can understand them without stopping at every unfamiliar word. You do not need previous experience. Our aim is to help beginners develop confidence, rather than prepare them for a formal examination.

For your first visit, please read the first page of the attached story twice. On the first reading, try to identify who is speaking and what is happening. On the second, underline no more than five words you would like to discuss. You are welcome to use a dictionary afterwards, but looking up every word during the first reading tends to interrupt the flow.

The group meets in the library's small meeting room on Wednesday at seven. The main entrance closes at 6:45, so use the side door beside the bicycle racks. I will leave your name with the caretaker. We normally finish by eight, although some members stay in the cafe afterwards.

There is no membership fee. We share printed copies, but you may bring a tablet if you prefer reading on screen. Please let me know by Tuesday whether you need a printed copy so I can prepare enough for everyone.

Kind regards,
Ruth

Dear Ruth,
Thank you for welcoming beginners. I will read the page 7.
