Over the past ten years, communication in society has changed from mainly face-to-face and email exchange to instant, platform-driven communication. These changes in the means of communication have produced clear positive and negative impacts. Consequently, the effects reach almost every relationship, and society now depends on digital connection in ways that were rare a decade ago.

On the positive side, modern communication tools have strengthened global connection and efficiency across society. For example, messaging and video communication let people sustain long-distance connection and obtain information immediately, which is a beneficial impact. Moreover, remote communication lowers travel costs and supports flexible work, so these changes bring economic effects that benefit the wider society. Such accessible communication has clearly improved connection in education, commerce and public services.

However, the same changes in communication have created negative effects on social behaviour and well-being. Continuous online communication promotes distraction and reliance on digital validation, and this impact weakens attention year after year. Furthermore, text-based communication limits empathy because non-verbal cues are absent, an effect that can damage trust and connection in personal relationships. Notably, misinformation and reduced privacy are further harmful impacts of these communication changes on society.

In summary, the changes in the means of communication during the past ten years have produced both benefits and harms for society. Although digital communication enhances connection and efficiency, it can undermine the emotional quality of human connection. Ultimately, the long-term effect depends on responsible communication that preserves meaningful connection within society.
