Each colour is one skill. Tap a colour to hide it. Tap it again to show it.

Modern life often prioritises comfort and personal preference, yet many worthwhile outcomes arise from effort that is initially unpleasant. I agree that people should sometimes undertake activities they do not enjoy, because such actions build essential skills and character, and they enable long-term goals that enjoyment alone cannot deliver.

First, discomfort is frequently the pathway to competence and resilience. Learning a language, training for a profession, or maintaining health requires repetitive practice that is rarely enjoyable at the outset. Persisting despite boredom or difficulty strengthens self-discipline, which later reduces stress and expands opportunities, making individuals more capable in both work and personal contexts.

Admittedly, constant self-denial can damage wellbeing, and leisure has legitimate value. However, avoiding all unpleasant tasks leads to dependency and stagnation. For example, refusing administrative duties or difficult conversations may feel comfortable temporarily, but it undermines teamwork and progress. A balanced willingness to tolerate short-term displeasure therefore protects collective outcomes and personal credibility.

Overall, selectively doing what one dislikes is not a rejection of happiness but a strategic investment in it. By accepting temporary discomfort for skill development, responsibility, and collaboration, people secure broader choices and deeper satisfaction over time. Enjoyment matters, yet it should not be the sole guide for meaningful action.
