Playful activities are commonly associated with childhood, yet the value of games does not disappear with age. I largely agree that games are as important for adults as they are for children, although the benefits differ in form and purpose. While children rely on games for foundational development, adults gain psychological balance, social connection, and sustained cognitive stimulation through play.

For children, games are essential because they support physical collaboration, language development, and social learning in an integrated manner. Through structured and unstructured play, children practise collaboration, problem-solving, and emotional regulation. For example, team games at school teach turn-taking, patience, and resilience, which shape later academic performance and interpersonal competence. Without regular play, children may struggle to acquire these core abilities naturally.

Adults, by contrast, use games to manage stress and preserve mental agility within demanding routines. Recreational sports, digital games, and board games provide relaxation while also encouraging strategic thinking and social interaction. Although play is sometimes dismissed as trivial for adults, its absence can contribute to chronic exhaustion and social withdrawal, demonstrating that games remain functionally significant beyond childhood.

In conclusion, games are equally important across the lifespan, even though they serve different developmental needs. Children benefit primarily through growth and skill formation, whereas adults gain wellbeing, balance, and social cohesion. Therefore, I strongly agree that play deserves recognition as a serious and necessary activity for both groups in modern society.
