The claim that the internet has mostly negative effects on civilisation deserves careful scrutiny. In my opinion, this invention has produced a largely positive impact on modern society rather than a harmful one. Indeed, the internet has transformed communication, education, and commerce across almost every civilisation on earth.

Moreover, the greatest benefit of this technology is the rapid access to information that the web now provides. For example, a student in a remote village can use the internet to reach knowledge that earlier generations of society could never obtain. Consequently, this network of information has widened opportunity and reduced the inequality that once limited many people within society. Furthermore, the internet strengthens communication by connecting families, colleagues, and communities across every distant civilisation. Clearly, instant messaging and video calls prove that this technology sustains relationships that physical distance would otherwise weaken.

Admittedly, critics argue that the internet spreads misinformation and that excessive screen time harms the wellbeing of society. However, these negative effects reflect human misuse rather than a genuine flaw in the invention or the underlying network itself. In addition, responsible regulation and digital education can reduce the harmful impact while preserving the clear benefits of the web.

Therefore, the positive impact of the internet on society far outweighs the limited harm that this technology occasionally causes. Ultimately, the internet remains a defining invention whose overall effects on civilisation are constructive rather than destructive.
