Despite unprecedented access to health information through media and technology, rates of obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases continue to rise. In my opinion, this paradox occurs because health information alone does not translate into healthy lifestyle habits. Indeed, I argue that structural lifestyle pressures and misleading food environments clearly undermine individual knowledge, and that aligned action is required to prevent these diseases and reverse current health trends.

First, modern lifestyle habits prioritise convenience and sedentary work, leaving individuals little time or energy for fitness and careful meal preparation. Specifically, long working hours, screen-based leisure and urban design that discourages walking mean that informed individuals still default to poor fitness. Moreover, aggressive marketing of processed food clearly normalises excessive sugar and fat intake among individuals despite widespread nutritional awareness and health information.

To prevent these diseases, prevention must move beyond information towards practical lifestyle change. For instance, governments can regulate food advertising, improve labelling and design cities that support active habits and daily fitness. In addition, workplaces and schools should embed regular physical activity and cooking skills, enabling individuals to apply health knowledge consistently rather than sporadically, thereby improving prevention.

In conclusion, rising diet- and fitness-related diseases reflect a gap between health awareness and environments that make healthy habits easy for individuals. Therefore, by reshaping food systems, daily lifestyle routines and social settings, societies can ultimately convert abundant health information into sustainable habits, stronger disease prevention and improved long-term wellbeing.
