Each colour is one skill. Tap a colour to hide it. Tap it again to show it.

Rapid advances in technology have encouraged claims that all teaching should be done online, replacing traditional classroom environments. I largely disagree with this statement about online education. Although online teaching improves flexibility and access, relying on it alone would undermine learning quality, social development, and fairness across subjects and learners.

Traditional classroom settings support richer interaction and immediate feedback that virtual online platforms rarely match. Face-to-face classroom discussion lets teachers adapt their instruction using visual cues and spontaneous questions from students. In my own university experience, demanding concepts such as statistics became far clearer during classroom tutorials, where teaching corrected misunderstandings instantly and deepened my understanding of difficult concepts. Practical subjects likewise benefit from supervised practice and real-time instruction that an online screen simply cannot deliver.

Moreover, educational institutions fulfil an essential social function that online teaching cannot fully replicate. A physical classroom promotes collaboration, routine, and interpersonal skills through shared activities and group work with other students. While online courses suit self-directed adults, younger learners in a traditional setting often need close supervision and steady motivation. During extended online study, many of my classmates reported isolation and falling motivation, which reduced engagement and wellbeing.

Therefore, I do not agree that all teaching should occur online instead of in the classroom. Online instruction should complement, not replace, traditional classroom education. A blended model preserves face-to-face teaching and social learning while using online technology to broaden access and tailor study. Ultimately, such balance supports equity across diverse educational environments far better than a purely online system.
