Success means different things to different people, and it is commonly framed either as material achievement or as personal fulfilment. In my opinion, genuine success is best understood as a balanced integration of purposeful work and meaningful relationships, rather than an exclusive focus on career or money alone. This essay explains why both dimensions of success matter for most people.

Career advancement and financial stability remain important because they provide autonomy, security and opportunities for growth. Meaningful work can foster competence and social contribution, as seen when people use their skills and reach ambitious goals that solve real problems. However, when money and status become the sole targets of success, individuals often experience stress and a fragile sense of worth that depends on constant comparison with other people.

Conversely, prioritising a life shared with loved ones and family nurtures emotional wellbeing and long-term satisfaction. Strong relationships with loved ones provide support during adversity and give daily life deeper meaning, which financial wealth alone cannot supply. Nevertheless, dismissing career ambition entirely may limit personal achievement and reduce the money needed to care for one's family responsibly.

Therefore, success should be defined by harmony between achievement and connection, not by extremes. A balanced life that combines financial competence with time and care for loved ones is more resilient than the relentless pursuit of career goals. Ultimately, such a perspective allows people to pursue their targets at work while preserving the relationships and family bonds that make success genuinely worthwhile.
