Societal advancement depends on both the creation and the use of ideas, yet these contributions are not equally significant for society. I largely agree that people with original ideas are of greater value than those who mainly copy existing ones. Original creative thinking establishes new directions for progress, whereas imitation generally improves or distributes what is already known.

The strongest reason for this view is that originality enables breakthroughs that reshape the economic, scientific and cultural systems of society. Developments such as novel medical therapies or innovative digital services arise when original thinkers challenge established assumptions rather than copy familiar models. These innovative ideas produce wide social benefits, including higher productivity and better living standards for society. Without individuals who generate new ideas, society is likely to stagnate and rely excessively on outdated solutions that no longer meet emerging needs.

Admittedly, people who copy ideas effectively also add value to society by spreading proven methods efficiently and at scale. However, such imitation remains derivative and lacks the creativity to define priorities or address unprecedented challenges. For instance, copying an existing business model into a new market may achieve short-term success, but only original adaptation and genuine innovation can respond to different regulations, cultures or resource limits. Consequently, copying supports innovation but cannot match the strategic importance of original ideas.

In conclusion, people with original ideas are more valuable to society because their creativity creates new possibilities and sustains long-term development. Those individuals who copy well perform a complementary function by refining and disseminating ideas. Nevertheless, it is originality and innovation that ultimately determine the direction and vitality of social progress, which is why original thinkers hold the greater value.
