Since the beginning of the twentieth century, biodiversity loss has accelerated, and unprecedented numbers of species now face extinction. In particular, this pattern of endangered wildlife is largely the result of human behaviour rather than natural evolutionary cycles over this period. On the whole, the main reason is that habitat destruction and pollution disrupt ecosystems faster than nature can recover.

Moreover, a principal reason is extensive habitat loss driven by urbanisation, industrial agriculture, and large infrastructure projects. For instance, forest clearing and wetland drainage fragment the natural habitat, isolating animal populations and reducing genetic diversity. Furthermore, excessive hunting, overfishing, and the wildlife trade directly remove species from nature, accelerating extinction across many regions. Indeed, chemical contamination and rising temperatures further undermine the fragile habitat on which endangered species depend for survival.

Consequently, an effective solution requires long-term conservation, so governments should strengthen land-use regulation and expand protected areas for wildlife. In addition, by practising sustainable farming and fishing, societies can reduce ecological damage while still meeting human needs. Admittedly, stricter enforcement against illegal wildlife trade and lower emissions would ease pressure on many vulnerable species and their habitats.

In conclusion, the sharp rise in endangered species since 1900 is primarily driven by human exploitation of nature over this period. Ultimately, without decisive conservation and protection, further extinction is likely, so responsible resource management offers the best solution for global biodiversity.
