Artificial Intelligences
Transcript:
Humans used to tell a computer what to do and how to do it. This means that every action a computer takes was directly programmed by humans. Computers relied on specific instructions, and they followed these instructions to perform tasks. However, when given the meaning of certain words, computers can now operate as programmed and even develop systems and symbols on their own. This advancement represents a significant shift in how computers function. In other words, computers now have the ability to turn messages into bytes. This process allows them to interpret, process, and act upon data in increasingly complex ways. What makes computers particularly powerful is their ability to process symbols, which is an important feature shared with human brains. Both computers and the human brain can process and manipulate symbols, although in different ways. Because of this similarity in function, computers may have the potential to bring about artificial intelligence. By processing symbols and learning from patterns, computers could potentially develop more advanced forms of thinking and reasoning, much like human intelligence. While we are still a long way from fully replicating the human brain, the development of computers as symbol processors marks an important step toward the possibility of creating artificial intelligence.
