Practice Listening: Summarize Spoken Text ID: #38091 Short Dementia
Instructions
So, there are there are a lot of epidemiological studies like the ones that uhm, melody and menus been referring to that have looked at uhm, for example, patterns of physical activity that predict either slower rates of cognitive decline or onset of dementia risk or risk of incident dementia. And it's certainly, I would say the vast majority of studies that have studied it well. Excuse me, have shown that you can reduce incident dementia risk by about 20 or 30% with high levels of physical activity compared to low levels of physical activity. So that's one line of evidence. Uhm, there are also other studies that have looked at physical fitness and typically cross-sectional studies, but sometimes longitudinal ones. And they have shown that people who have higher fitness levels, both aerobic fitness as well as higher muscle strength, actually have slower rates of cognitive decline. If you follow them over eight years or so and then there are what we call intervention studies, where you can take people who are either healthy or who have signs of early cognitive impairment called mild cognitive impairment.
