Two students and a librarian are considering creating study room reservation limits.
Luke (Student)
It's so frustrating trying to get a study room when you actually need one. By the time I check the booking page, they're all taken sometimes by the same people day after day. I think we need a hard cap on how many times someone can reserve per week.
Chloe (Student)
I get that it's annoying, Luke, but we've got to be careful. What if someone really does need space for group work every day? I'm more concerned about fairness how do we make sure limits don't unfairly affect students with different schedules or needs?
Mr. Foster (Librarian)
That's the tricky part. Managing the online reservation system already takes time, and enforcing new rules would mean more staff oversight. Still, the usage data clearly shows that certain students are monopolising prime slots. It's obvious the current setup isn't working.
Luke (Student)
Maybe we could set an equitable booking limit like one reservation per student per day, or maybe three per week max. That way everyone gets a fair shot, but the system isn't over complicated. it wouldn't solve everything, but at least it'd be a start.
Chloe (Student)
I'd be okay with that, but only if there's a way to track no shows too. Some people reserve and then never show up, and the room just sits empty. Could we add a check in step online, or cancel the booking automatically if they don't confirm?
Mr. Foster (Librarian)
That's doable. We could tweak the system to require students to check in within 15 minutes of their slot. Otherwise, it releases the room for someone else. I'd also recommend we collect feedback on the new policy just a short survey embedded in the booking confirmation.
Luke (Student)
Yes, and we should explain why we're doing it maybe a pop up that says. 'To improve access for all students.' so no one thinks it's just restrictions for the sake of it.
Chloe (Student)
And let's make it temporary to start with say two months? If it turns out to be more hassle than help, we can revise it. But if it works, we'll have evidence to make a permanent change.
Mr. Foster (Librarian)
Agreed. We'll implement temporary booking limits in the system, monitor reservation usage and satisfaction data, and review everything at the end of the two months. If students feel it's more fair and access improves, we can look at making the changes official.
