Practice Speaking: Summarize Group Discussion
ID: #49701
Teamwork Challenges
Transcript:
Three of them are discussing on the project.
Nina: Guys, I can't deal with this group project anymore. I'm doing most of the work while the others barely respond. It's completely unfair.
Riya: Ugh, that's the worst. I've been in that situation, and it's so frustrating when you're pulling all the weight.
Leena: Did you talk to them directly about it? Sometimes they don't even realize how much they're slacking.
Nina: I've tried dropping hints, but no one takes it seriously. I feel like if I complain, I'll just look like a control freak.
Riya: You're not being a control freak you're being responsible. If it continues, you might want to let your lecturer know privately.
Leena: Or at least document what you've done versus what others haven't. That way, if needed, you have proof of your contribution.
Nina: Yeah, I guess I just needed someone to tell me it's okay to speak up.
Riya: It absolutely is. You're not just allowed to stand up for yourself you should.
Leena: And in the meantime, we're here if you want to practice your part or brainstorm. You don't have to go through this alone.
Nina: Thanks, both of you. I'm definitely going to say something this time.
Riya: Thats the spirit! Honestly, once you speak up, people usually realise they've been coasting and start helping out.
Leena: Exactly. And even if they don’t, at least you’ll know you tried to handle it maturely. Its better than silently resenting them.
Nina: True. I think I’ll message the group tonight and suggest dividing the remaining tasks properly. Maybe set a clear deadline for everyone.
Riya: Great idea. You could even phrase it as a progress check rather than a complaint that way, it sounds constructive.
Leena: Yeah, something like Hey everyone, let’s finalise who's doing what so we can finish on time. It keeps the tone friendly but firm.
Nina: I like that. You both make it sound so easy I was overthinking it way too much.
Riya: Happens to all of us. Sometimes we just need a little push and a reminder that being fair doesn’t mean being bossy.
Leena: And once it’s done, we’ll celebrate your stress-free weekend with coffee.
Nina: Deal! Thanks again, you two. I already feel lighter just talking about it.
