Practice Speaking: Summarize Group Discussion ID: #49699 Homesickness Abroad
Instructions
Three girls are discussing about feeling homesick. Aarushi: I didn't think it would hit me this hard, but I really miss home. I miss the food, my family, the sounds, even the chaos. Zoya: That's completely normal. The first semester away is always the hardest. It's a big adjustment. Tanya: Yeah, I felt the same when I first moved here. Everything was so unfamiliar, and I kept comparing it to home. Aarushi: Exactly. And when I try to explain it to others, they just don't get it. Zoya: You don't have to explain it to everyone. But we understand. And it's okay to feel torn between two places. Tanya: Have you tried making video calls home regularly or cooking something from home, even if it's simple? Aarushi: I haven't cooked much yet. I've mostly been eating out. Zoya: Let's do a cooking night together! You can teach us one of your favorite dishes from home. Tanya: And we'll bring the dessert! It's a great way to feel connected again. Aarushi: That sounds amazing. Thank you. I feel a little lighter already. Zoya: Great! We can make it this weekend. You can show us how your family makes it, and we'll make it our little tradition. Aarushi: That would actually mean a lot. My mum and I used to cook together every Sunday it was our thing. Tanya: Aww, that's lovely. You should video call her while we're cooking! I'm sure she'd love to see you carrying on the tradition. Aarushi: She'd probably start giving me cooking tips the moment she sees me chopping onions wrong! Zoya: That's what mums do best. But seriously, it'll make her happy and you’ll feel closer to home. Tanya: And you'll see once you build small routines here, like cooking nights or movie Fridays, it'll start to feel more like your own space. Aarushi: You're right. I think I've been focusing too much on what I've lost instead of what I can create here. Zoya: Exactly. Home isn't gone you're just adding a new version of it here. Aarushi: Thanks, both of you. I really needed this talk.
