Gravity
Isaac Newton was the first person to describe gravity, and he is said to have had a revelation about its existence after seeing an apple fall from a tree. He surmised from this that any object exerts a force on another object; the more massive the objects are, the greater the force of attraction between them. According to this theory, the Earth and the apple are both pulling each other together. However, because the mass of the planet is so much greater, it takes a lot more force to move it a significant distance. The apple has a tiny mass in comparison, and is easily pulled towards the Earth.
