Coyotes
There is a common belief that while a dog is man’s best friend, coyote is his worst enemy. The bad reputation of a coyote traces back to its fondness for small animals; it hunts at night and is particularly disastrous to sheep, young pigs, and poultry. However, it is sometimes wise to encourage coyotes. Provided the valuable farm animals are protected, the coyote often free the property of other animals, such as rabbits, which are ruinous to crops and certain trees. They are especially beneficial in keeping the rodent population under control. Coyotes have been allowed to do their work without molestation, and ranchers and fruit growers have found them so valuable that they would no more shoot them than they would shoot their dogs.
