Honduras
Although Honduras is a pulsing and captivating country where you can visit attractions such as the Maya ruins of Copán, its beautiful Caribbean islands such as Roatán, and over a dozen national parks, and despite the fact that it is an extremely cost-effective tourist destination, one must be aware of the dangers that its cities pose. Honduras is considered one of the most dangerous places to visit in the world, as crime and violence are a serious problem. Honduras has one of the highest murder rates in the world. To make matters worse, international authorities have warned that traveling to this Central American nation implies exposing oneself to be infected with the Zika virus. However, some countries do not advise their nationals not to visit: the UK, for example, reported that last year more than 8,000 British tourists visited the country and encountered no trouble. But the European nation does recommend its citizens to take precautions, such as avoiding using public transport within the cities. And not only foreigners are at risk since hundreds of local residents also face the country’s violence. In the 2010-2014 period alone, 43 journalists were assassinated, but, unfortunately, local authorities fail to investigate and prosecute these crimes.
