All through the 1990s, my collaborative researches, with the etichemic, were mostly oriented towards the documentation of the law and customary lanterns system. In a dynamic perspective, the anthropological proof is needed for the negotiation process. Furthermore, I participated for a while as an expert anthropologist and alongside, the atomic representatives at the negotiating table. With the representatives of the federal and provincial governments, surely, these tables have a tremendous ethnographic potential. I must say, however, that I gradually became disappointed, disillusioned by the ingrained nature of the colonial and unequal relations of power that occurred around the negotiating table. But the paternalistic and Neo-colonial attitude of the state representatives towards the etichemic, by their lack of understanding of indigenous realities, by their lack of political will to conduct a fair negotiation and to arrive at an honourable agreement. Others withdrew from the negotiating table. However, that did not deter me quite the contrary, from working alongside the etichemic towards improving their self-determination.
