Being rapid rises in temperature, one of the unique things, especially about the point on the planet that we're sitting at now is it has been identified as a bit of a global hotspot for warming, especially SE Australia, and just to provide another way of looking at that, this is some average sea surface temperature anomaly data, so differences in sea surface temperature every year. From a long-term average and you can see what we saw before. Since the 20s, temperatures are rising globally. If you look at some more local work, I've sort of overlaid same data series pulled for one tree island which is on the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef where we have our field station and then Sydney in blue and you can see the rate of increase is much steeper. And this is characteristic as you move further to the South. If I had done Tasmania, you'd see an even steeper increase. And of course, then this is driving rain shifts in organisms within our local Australian context. And here's a few examples. There's some data from that same Pulaski study of 80 species, about half of them had shifts consistent with climate change. More compelling is probably the 4056 different fish. Species that have had some change in their distribution. 45 of those 56 have shifted in a direction that's consistent with climate change with a warming.
