They were warriors, farmers and traders, who used iron weapons to conquer more lands, and iron tools to farm them and their opponents found the Celtic warriors terrifying.
In order to scare their enemies battle, Celtic warriors combed their hair to make it stand on end, often tattooed or decorated their bodies, and rushed shouting into battle.
Many Europeans are descendants of the Celts, and Celtic place names such as London and Paris and river names such as Rhine, Danube and Thames are still in use.
The Celts' first homeland was probably in what is now southern Germany and the Czech Republic.
