Common baldness
Common baldness, or androgenetic alopecia, is the most prevailing type of abnormal hair loss in the world. Around 80% of men and 30% of women in the case of women it is known as female pattern hair loss -- suffer from it. For millions of people, going bald is a real nightmare, a bad dream that can be traced back 6,000 years. According to historians, in ancient Egypt, there were already people who specialized in scalp diseases. There is even a papyrus which deals with a hair loss treatment which included an exotic mixture of hippopotamus, crocodile, snake, and goat fat with porcupine “hair” which had to be boiled in water and applied for four days. However, when the concoctions used by the Egyptians did not work, patients would opt for resorting to wigs or hairpieces. It is believed that such behavior was a consequence of hair being a symbol of power and virility: the biblical myth of Samson serves as good proof of this since his strength was supposed to rely on his mane.
