When most people think of bullying, it is often within the context of the playground; many adults can remember being harassed at some point during their schooldays. A subject that is generally not talked about, however, is the kind of bullying which can happen on a daily basis within the workplace. This kind of abuse can take many different forms, including verbal and physical abuse, but it can also be more subtle. Staff might be maliciously gossiped about or marked. Managers might burden a person with too much work or limit leave options; co-workers may withhold crucial information that obstructs a person from doing his or her job effectively. Unfortunately, it seems that there is a long way to go before this sort of intimidation is eradicated. A recent survey has reported that more than 90 per cent of employees in the UK felt their companies did not do enough to deal with bullying.
