Practice Listening: Highlight Correct Summary ID: #46581 Medium Melody
Instructions
Melody is not smoking. So, smoking is bad and is one of, you know, probably the most, although, it's not the most prevalent unhealthy behaviours anymore. At least in most countries, it's one of the worst in terms of of almost every health outcome you can think of. And then I think there's two things that people don't really think about as much that probably are at least as important in terms of longevity. And the first of those would be social connectedness. So, having a sense of social integration and that's measured in lots and lots of different ways. Sometimes, it's about the strength of your personal relationships and your perception of the support that you received from those relationships or the intimacy in those relationships, or having a confidant. So that's that's one aspect and being engaged in the community around you in some way. And the other aspect is having a sense of purpose and sense that there is something bigger than yourself; and that you have a purpose in life in some way, and sometimes that manifests itself in a very individual way in terms of things like a type of meditative practise, for example, or a sense of altruism. Sometimes, it manifests itself, and volunteerism or caregiving behaviours, but those two aspects of social connectedness and a sense of purpose in life are actually, in some studies, twice as important as what kind of physical activity you do or what kind of nutritional diet you eat or don't eat.
