If we look at the demographics that are suffering from food insecurity in Australia, those that are received assistance from a food relief charity were twice as likely to be from Generation Y. That's ages 24 to 37. Following on from that. They were more likely to be unemployed or from low-income families. Single parent families, mentally ill, disabled, elderly, indigenous and women. So, when we think about incorporating urban agriculture into our cities, we really need to be focusing on these demographics and realising who do we want to benefit, who really needs fresh fruit and vegetables in our cities. We need to be looking at issues such as access, affordability and incorporating education and training into the mix. This idea of introducing urban agriculture to reduce food insecurity isn't new, and it's been happening in other countries for decades. And particularly, Cuba in Havana, with the fall of the Soviet Union, Cuba had this problem where they weren't getting their food supply, they lost their petroleum supply, and they were facing huge issues of food insecurity. And so, what they did is the government implemented a national programme and priority based on urban agriculture.
