So, my particular interest is in the role of corporations and financial conflicts of interest in perpetuating truth decay in decisions related to health and evidence; and so, corporations have a very long history of influencing evidence on health and decisions about health. So, think back 1969, tobacco companies were extremely worried about the scientific consensus on the harms of tobacco and the quite large evidence base then about the harms of tobacco. And so, the tobacco companies got together to decide what to do about this; and this is a quote, direct quote from a tobacco document released years later that explains their plan. This is coming from someone in the tobacco industry, and it says the Tobacco Institute, their trade organisation has done a good job in the area of politics and as an industry, we also seem to have done very well in turning out scientific information. To counter the anti-smoking claims, but there's no question that we've been inept in getting our side of the story good though it may be across to the news media and to the public. So, this is the plan that was launched.
