Failure  is  a  negative  word  for  most  business  people,  but  it  can  actually  encourage  creativity,  either  for  an  individual  or  an  organisation.  There  seem  to  be  two  ways  that  people  view  failure,  which  I  describe  as  type  1  and  type  2.  The  ,  type  1,  is  being  afraid  of  it.  Most  individuals,  managers  and  businesses  are  like  .  They  think  that  failure  is  embarrassing  and  painful  and  as  a  result,  there  is  very  little  creativity  in  a  company,  producing  low  results.  But  the  ,  type  2,  is  being  afraid  of  missing  opportunities.  Places  like  Silicon  Valley  in  California  are  full  of    people.  What  is  embarrassing  to  them  is  sitting  around  and  watching  other  people  think  of  a  great  idea  when  they  could  do  so.  What  type  2  people  know  is  that  failure  is  not  bad;  it  can  actually  be  exciting.  In    a  situation,  you  can  actually  get  ideas  for  the  next  big  thing.  When  we  are  children,  we  are  all  type  2,  full  of  energy  and  creativity.  But  somewhere  between  childhood  and  adulthood,  we  change  to  type  1  because  failure  is  just  not  allowed.
