Doing things to help other people can make you feel as if you have more free time and not less, according to recent research. An experiment carried out at Harvard Business School involved three groups of people who spent time in different ways. One group helped other people, one group time by counting how many times the letter 'e' occurred in a text and the third group participated in their own choice of activities. In each experiment, the people who their time to a good cause felt that they had more time than the people who did not. Before the experiment, the study authors believed that this was because a high level of between people provides them with a more relaxed . But the research showed that it actually made people feel more useful and added to their self-esteem, as they felt that they could achieve goals.
