Prohibition
* Drag the correct answer into all target fields
Because of a campaign against alcohol by ministers, the United States government banned the production and sale of all alcohol the United States between 1920 and 1933. The ban was known as Prohibition. Millions of litres of wine and spirits were thrown away, but the ban did not work very well. The law was broken by gangsters and bootleggers, who made and sold drink illegally and became rich in the process. After America had been hit by the Depression with a loss of jobs in the early 1930s, alcohol was once again in the hope that its manufacture would provide much-needed jobs.
