Climate  change  is    potentially  the  world's  greatest  problem.  It  is  caused  by  emissions  of  greenhouse  gases  such  as  carbon  dioxide,  which  increase  the    of  the  Sun's  heat  by  the  Earth's  atmosphere.  Climate  change  will  lead  to  a  range  of  problems,  such  as  crops  failing,    changing  and  sea  levels  rising,  causing  widespread  coastal  flooding.  The  only  realistic  way  to  avoid  these  problems  is  to  reduce  greenhouse  gas  emissions.  Many    scientists  have  undertaken  considerable  amounts  of  research  in  this  area  and  have  predicted  some  very    problems  in  the  future.
However,  governments  of  many  countries  seem  reluctant  to  take  any  action  on  this  matter.  This  is  despite  there  being  many  recent  developments  in  the  area  of    energy  production  that  make  them  as  efficient  as  conventional,  greenhouse-gas-emitting  forms  of  power  generation.  If  governments  continue  to  do  nothing,  the  public  will  see  them  as    contributing  to  the  problem.
