As  with  any  new  paradigm  shift,  there  are  the  naysayers  as  well  as  the  enthusiasts.  The  very  same  was  true  at  the  advent  of  the  printing  press,  when  it  was    by  some  that  this  would  mean  an  end  to  Socratic  learning.  Skepticism  and  even  cynicism  about  how  well  an  online  class  can  teach  students  might  develop,  especially  among  those  who  feel    about  technology.
Many  of  us  are    with  David  Nobles  (1997-2001)  criticisms  of  online  teaching  and  learning  in  his  series  of  essays,  Digital  Diploma  Mills.  Noble,  who  has  studied  the  history  of  technology  for  more  than  30  years,  thinks  that  being  called  a    is  not  an  insult,  as  he  believes  that  technology  in  teaching  is  .  (The  Luddites  were  british  weavers  in  the  1800s  who    against  technology.)
