Europe is set to the elite club of exascale computing next year, with the completion of JUPITER, a supercomputer that can perform a billion billion operations per second. JUPITER will be hosted at the Jülich Supercomputing Centre in Germany, and will enable simulations and experiments that are currently only possible on a few machines in the US and China. The exascale supercomputer will use a modular architecture, of several interconnected modules with different hardware and software configurations. This will allow JUPITER to to different scientific and industrial applications, such as climate modeling, materials science, quantum computing, and artificial intelligence. JUPITER will also be with other European supercomputing and data infrastructures, such as the European Open Science Cloud and the European Data Infrastructure.
