Practice Reading: Fill in the Blanks (Dropdown) ID: #4472 Biofuel
Instructions
Biofuels  are  often  used  as  a  way  of    carbon  emissions,  but  they  may  be  responsible  for  a  very  different  problem  altogether.  Large  areas  of  forest  and  agricultural  land  are  being  cleared  to  make  plantations  for  fuel  crops.  To    the  issue,  these  crops  are  often  extremely  inefficient.  In  the  United  States,  for  example,  maize  is  used  for  ethanol  production  but  the  biofuel  output  is    to  the  energy  needed  to  grow  the  plant.  Better  efficiency  levels  may  be  reached  with  newer  types  of  biofuels  such  as  grass  and  wood,  but  these  are  still  in  trials  and  will  need  time  to    adequate  production  levels.  Experts  are  hopeful  that  governments  will  not  be    by  the  quick-fix  solution  that  low-efficiency  biofuels  provide,  and  will  instead  be  patient  for  the  future.
