Fifth edition of The Mask of Sanity describes clinical as well as some psychopath cases. These theories and cases are written in the form of dramatic, novelistic explanations of 13 individuals. The book begins with the notions of sanity. He states that the term psychopath as confusing and of the view that it should not be used in accordance with its etymological meaning mental . He states that the main objective of the book is to bring a few psychopath cases before other psychiatrists, and also to raise the profile among the people, so that they can be able to manage psychopaths. In his book he talks about 16 typical behaviors that a psychopath shows. Cleckley also outlined significant between the psychopath and non-psychopathic criminal. Furthermore, he describes causes, control and treatments of mental disorders. He notes that neither psychological nor physical methods such as shock or lobotomy seem to be the actual treatments to the problem but are helpful in and managing psychopaths. Cleckley repeatedly uses terms like charming, intelligent, likeable, alert and impressive in his case studies to describe a psychopath. Cleckley’s influential hypothesis regarding psychopaths is that they suffer from an actual mental disorder that is incurable. They do strange and self-destructive acts. What to others would be a tragedy is to them only a transitory troublesomeness.
