In Cambodia and Thailand, elephants have learned to their right of way as wildlife on the road to stop passing sugar cane trucks and steal a quick snack. These elephants are known to be very intelligent and resourceful, and they have quickly figured out that they can use their size and to their advantage. When they see a sugar cane truck coming, they will often step out into the road and block the truck's path. The driver of the truck will then have no choice but to stop, and the elephant will quickly reach up and grab a few stalks of sugarcane to eat. This behavior has become so common that there are now signs on roads in these areas drivers to be on the lookout for elephants. In some cases, elephants have even been known to damage the trucks or injure the drivers. However, for the most part, these encounters are harmless. The elephants are simply looking for a quick snack, and they are not interested in causing any harm.
