Well, essentially big data is data that we can now because of our digital world — it's a huge volume of information that can be extremely complex to analyse using methods. To give a simple example, whereas traditionally a company had to a market research survey and actually ask customers for responses, these days digital technology keeps of all kinds of customer behaviour, and in real time. And this information shows trends and changes in behaviour that a company might not have thought about in their market research. Basically, if traditional data gave enough information, big data wouldn't have become such an important tool.
