Due to the eyes of owls being mainly for seeing in the dark, their night vision is as highly developed as that of human beings. However, more than 50% of these birds of prey are color-blind, which makes them only view blurred images. The reason behind this is that their eyes contain more rod-shaped receptor cells than cone-shaped ones. On the other hand, these animals have binocular vision, since their eyes are in the of their heads. This feature provides them with a great advantage when it comes to suddenly and quickly flying to catch small prey.
