CELPIP Practice Reading: Reading Correspondence ID: #62922 Medium The Seedling Table

Read the following message.

Hi Evelyn,

When I checked the community garden this evening, I found that last night's rain had soaked several labels on the seedling table. The plants are healthy, but we can no longer tell which of three trays contains the mild peppers and which contains the hot ones. The tomato tray is still clearly marked.

I moved the uncertain trays into the shed so no one takes a pepper plant by mistake before Saturday's exchange. Rosa, who grew them, can identify the varieties by their leaves, but she cannot come until late morning. I suggest we open the exchange at the usual time with tomatoes and herbs, then add the peppers after she arrives.

Could you update the message board? Please say that pepper seedlings will be available later, rather than saying the whole exchange is delayed. People who only want herbs should not change their plans unnecessarily.

I also found a packet of waterproof tags in the supply box. Once Rosa identifies the plants, we can label each pot instead of only the trays. That will take longer, but the names will stay with the plants when gardeners carry them away. I can do the writing if you help separate the pots.

Thanks,
Caleb

Hi Caleb,

I will update the board tonight. I will emphasize that tomatoes and herbs remain available at the usual time, so visitors do not 7.
. I will describe the peppers as temporarily unavailable, since the problem is identifying them, not their 8.
.

Keeping those trays in the shed was sensible. Someone wanting a mild pepper could otherwise leave with 9.
. Once Rosa arrives, I can separate the pots while you write the new tags.

Labelling each pot will require more work now, but it should prevent the information from 10.
when plants leave their trays. I will bring a dry cloth so we can attach the tags properly.

This plan lets most of the exchange continue while we wait for the person who can 11.
.

Evelyn
