Dear Parents,
A.
As the new school year gets underway it is timely to send you the guidelines and procedures that will be followed this year at Kitsilano Park School with respect to homework and absences. I would ask you to please review and take note of the above guidelines and procedures so that we may work together in providing the best possible educational experience for your child this year.
B.
Repeated failure to complete homework may result in the issuance of an Academic Notice. In accordance with school policy, Academic Notices always require a meeting with the parent and administration. If I send such a notice to you, it will request that you phone me as soon as possible so that we can set up a meeting involving you the parents, me the teacher involved, and the vice-principal. This will help us effectively investigate the reason for such behavior and come up with a solution that everyone can agree on. Students who appear to become ill during the school day will be sent to the office and a determination will be made by the school nurse whether or not a child should be sent home.
C.
If deemed necessary to send the child home, parents will be telephoned at home or at work to make arrangements for pick-up. It is important that we take a swift action in order to prevent an outbreak that hit our school last year. If students need to be absent from school for two days or longer, parents or guardians are required to give the school a notice at least 3 days in advance. It can be a signed letter explaining the circumstance, or other supporting documents. An absence for 10 days or longer will require a prior approval from the vice-principal. You can find the request form attached to this e-mail.
D.
With your support, we are confident that this academic year will be another year full of successes for our students. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to call the office at 416-225-7654 and leave a message for me and I will contact you as soon as possible to discuss your concerns.
Best regards,
Sam Wheeler

Thank you for reminding me of 7.. Last year, I planned to take Jamie for a short visit to her grandma’s house for 3 days, but we only gave the school 8.. Unfortunately, her teacher had planned a mandatory field trip that Jamie didn’t mention before.
If I can make a suggestion, when a parent is called to school, can we keep the meeting between 9.? Our vice principal is busy and rarely available.
Last year, during the flu outbreak, the school was late in taking actions. This year, I hope that the school will have the school nurse available during the entire school hours to assess if 10..
I also have a question I’d like to ask. My husband and I often go on business trips and we leave Jamie at her uncle’s. Do we need to add him to Jamie’s profile as 11.?
Yours sincerely,
Robin Lu
